In an era where sustainability takes center stage in global concerns, how can we steer food production and choices towards environmental respect and health? To address these crucial questions, Enoteca Longo, with the endorsement of the Municipality of Legnano and in collaboration with the Legnano Family, has arranged a special gathering featuring Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food movement and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo. The event will take place on Thursday, June 6th from 9:00 PM at the auditorium of the Bonvesin de la Riva schools in Legnano.

Who is Carlo Petrini?

Carlo Petrini is a prominent figure in the international food and wine scene. He founded Slow Food in the 1980s, a movement aimed at promoting a culture of good, clean, and fair food. Petrini also established the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, an international hub that attracts students from around the world, offering an interdisciplinary approach to food and wine studies.

During the gathering, Petrini will discuss how food education and ecological transition can converge to build a better future. "Food is no longer nourishment and care," says Carlo Petrini, affectionately known as Carlin to his friends, "but it sickens our bodies due to unhealthy habits that prioritize quantity over quality; it sickens our spirits because it causes serious social injustices; it sickens the planet because it is among the primary culprits of the climate crisis, paying a very high price for it.

Food education, the key to a sustainable future

According to Petrini, to reverse this trend, it is essential to start with the food education of younger generations. During the event, he will discuss the importance of incorporating food education as a mandatory subject in schools of all levels, an initiative of which he is the primary advocate.
